Richie Hawtin ejected from Berghain

admin | October 13, 2009

hawtinIt appears that Richie Hawtin may have been ejected from Berlin’s infamous techno club Berghain. While the exact details are yet to be known, Hawtin and fellow techno elite Dubfire both made mention of an incident via their Twitter profiles. Hawtin posting this “U know what, BERGHEIM is a great club once you are inside, but why does the door policy have to be so fucking ridiculously hard. Come on guys, you have a great club but don’t act so egotistically cool.” and Dubfire commenting that “I have to say that the bouncers were TOTAL pricks though and roughed up alot of our crew:-(”

While this is hardly rock solid evidence of a scandal, electronicbeats.net have confidently reported that a group including Hawtin were indeed ejected when “a curtain dividing the DJ booth and back room came crashing down and all behind it were thrown out.”

The esoteric art of the opening DJ

admin | October 8, 2009

The Esoteric art of the Warm up DJ
In this fantastic expose from the team at Resident Advisor, Jack O’Shaughnessy investigates the often under appreciated art of the warm up DJ from the unique perspective of the headliners who follow them. Here in Melbourne there was the famous story of when Danny Howells was so overwhelmed by the Rollin Connection’s warm up performance, that he attempted to take them with him for the rest of his tour. Needless to say the warm DJs job is one of the most important roles a DJ can play in a night and this article should be compulsory reading for any budding jock.

Beatport offers free downloads for a year

admin | October 8, 2009

beatport - win free downloads for a yearBeatport this week announced a new competition where contestants can win free downloads for one year, by purchasing from the site before October 31. To enter all you have to do is login to your Beatport account and purchase over $20 worth of tunes. After that you are automatically entered into the draw. While that entry mechanic means that most people should have no problem qualifying for the competition, the MTC have calculated that you probably have a 1 in 200 billion chance of winning. That being said it would be nice wouldn’t it?

You can find (slightly) more information at Beatportal
